Sister Helen Prejean Speaks to Hundreds in Nashville
Sister Helen Prejean, author and Pulitzer Prize nominee for her book, Dead Man Walking, spoke to audiences all over Nashville last week reaching hundreds of Tennesseans with the message of a broken system that needs to be stopped. She gave several lectures as well as the Sunday morning sermon at Christ Church Cathedral, spoke to high school students at Hume Fogg and Father Ryan, and spent time visiting with inmates on Tennessee’s death row. Over the three days that she was in Nashville, attendees were inspired by her stories and learned more about the heavy burden of the death penalty, a burden carried by all those involved in the system from murder victims’ family members to judges, correctional staff, and the families of those on death row.
TADP is thrilled to partner with Sister Helen in this work of abolition and is deeply grateful for her support. Through her visit, TADP enlisted 50 new supporters and publicized our upcoming student conference to students at both Hume Fogg and Father Ryan. We are also deeply grateful to Joe Ingle for organizing these events, along with our friends at Christ Church Cathedral and the church staff who welcomed TADP and provided us the opportunity to host a table at the events.
